WEBmadman's Digital Services

My relationship with computers goes back to 1981 when I first started high school. I had an immediate affinity for them and started doing more than just what was required for the class curriculum, not always to the delight of my teachers ;-) Since then, we sort of grew up together.

I first got a taste of the World Wide Web in 1993 (the WEB of WEBmadman does not actually come from that- I first started using the signature "WEB" for my artwork around 1988, before the inception of the WWW- my WEB is derived from my initials, WE, plus the B for Budd, my mother's family's name, it also signifies some other rather esoteric stuff, but that's a whole other discussion). By 1995, I started making websites- on Geocities to start, then later by using Netscape Composer, and finally by hand coding the HTML. In the early 00's, I designed and taught a college level course on HTML.

Currently, I have been developing sites primarily with Drupal. It's  a very versatile and powerful framework that offers many advantages. Being Open Source, it is both free and it avoids vendor lock-in. It also has a massive community behind it, so there are modules to support an endless number of features- from basic CMS functionality (Content Management System- as a client you can log in to the site from wherever you can access the Web and make updates yourself) to galleries, forums, e-commerce, blogs, pretty much anything you can imagine.

It also separates content from presentation- meaning the look of the site is separate from the information itself, so if you ever want to change how your site looks, all that needs to change is the theme. I also have extensive experience with taking a designers mock-up and turning it into a functional theme. I can also take "old" sites into Drupal while maintaining the look and style of the original.

Some sites I have developed:

I've also been webmaster for my friends at  Wildewood Guest House for a very long time- their site started out as a regular HTML site and I have ported it to Drupal recently while maintaining the style, which they have always really liked :-)

A while ago I was hired as a consultant to help TekDesk set up the Community Calendars project- I got them up and running very quickly and their staff of developers have been running with it since!

So, drop me a line (wayne@webmadman.net/Contact form) and lets start developing your online presence!

Are you tired of viruses and malware, but not wanting to buy a whole new, and expensive, computer? Let's talk Linux! Most people think of Linux as a geeky, hard to use thing that you need to know all about computers to use, and, at one point, that was certainly true, but things have changed- I personally use Kubuntu because it is quite flexible and I can tweak it to suit my needs, but for folks that are just doing some Internet (surfing, email, chatting), some word processing, accessing their camera, watching some movies, listening to some music, there's Linux Mint. It's based on Ubuntu, the same as the Kubuntu system I use, but is built to be super easy to use. You can try it all out on your own, but if you live near me (you know who you are ;-)), drop me a line and I can run an assist, do a bit of handholding, and introduce you to a whole new world of possibility!
