Question Why 2006 on Google Video

As a side note, I have already uploaded my first video to Google Video- Question Why:

Question Why

Also available in the Sketchbin
I figured I'd post a blog entry to have it here... :-)

budabed- the new video from Dancing Circles

Okay, so I got all obsessed last night and made another video. Exploring some of the same techniques I used in Question Why, with this one, "budabed", I've got some new stuff to play with ;-)

As usual, you can grab a high rez version from my sketchbin folder:

Screen Shots!

Some groovy screen captures of me and beryl, or me "in" Beryl :-)

Beryl rocks!

Beryl rocks! (http://www.beryl-project.org)
It now seems stable enough to keep on all the time. The visual feedback really adds a nice feel to the desktop workflow.

And, this is the even more rockin part, it has a really nice capture plugin, so I have grabbed some shots to share with you all:

Have fun :-)

Upgraded my gallery

Well, that was far more involved than I wanted ti to be, but it's all done now :-)

Yes, my gallery:
http://gallery.webmadman.net
Has had it's backend reinserted ;-)

The Catcha seems to work now- that's the thing that makes you look at a picture and type in what it say before you can post a comment- thus, I hope, precenting the 100+ per day spam comments that have been hitting it- If I see another add for V1AGRA again, I think I'll have to kill someone ;-)

Now that I'm upgraded, I can use a Drupal module to more tightly integrate the gallery with my main site here...

Next move is to integrate the For, Um into my main site... ah, a webmasters work is never done... ;-P

On a side note, if you do frequent my gallery, please leave comments that are as descriptive as possible and then you will help make it searchable- see yourself, add your name, etc....

It worked!

Well, that's exciting. As usual a lot of fitsing and fuddling, but I can now post without having to log in to my site. Why you say? Well, keeps my stats a little more accurate... and it makes doing this very quick and easy :-)

I'm also in the process of integrating my For, Um and my gallery into the main site. The forum has been a royal pain with the spam, so I want to get the bugs worked out of that. I also have to upgrade the gallery to the latest version then it can be integrated into here...

Meanwhile, the debate on the "same-sex" marriage in Canada is finally over and done with, sure there will still be grumbling about it, but now it is "for sure" that any 2 consenting adults can have their mutual commitment validated (which is particularly useful with everything from hospital visits to employee benefits, you know, actual life stuff), ah, equality, nice to see it show up once in a while, eh?

Anyhoo, there will probably be more of these no that I've made oh so easy :-)

Trying out Deepest Sender Extension

Hey, this is a test to see if I can post from the Deepest Sender extension in firefox...

Up to Edgy

I just updated my Ubuntu from Dapper to Edgy. It went easily enough- took several hours, for most of which I didn't have to do anything, but every once in a while it would ask me about something (usually to do with some file I customized for some reason). In the end, I'm quite pleased, a lot of things are ticking quicker. It's not without it's hitches- I'm going to have to do some tweaking to get my webcam working again. I got the webcam (an older Logitech thing) from the cbc through a show called ZeD a few years back. I participated in an online/live broadcast thing and got to see myself live on national television (well, with a bit of lag time) while sitting in my room... but I digress ;-)

Overall I'm liking Edgy :-)

I made sure to uninstall the beryl eye candy stuff before upgrading, putting it back in was very easier- it's much more seamless in Edgy, but still a little off with handling multiple desktops- it does it, but it's kinda twitchy, so I only turn it on (which I can do now without having to restart my xserver) when I'm trying it out- might find a setting that will stabilize it...

Google Images likes my Tarot images

Well, seems I come up in the first few pages on Google Images listing for "tarot" and there's lots of people clicking on it from all over the world- Google sure does exist in a lot of languages... there's google.com.tr, google.com.pe... where are these places? Well, I guess a google search will find out eh?

Well, Google bopped me to Wikipedia- the other incredibly huge thing to grow rather quickly recently- tr is turkey (I kind of figured that) and pe is Peru, hmm, not sure I would have guessed that :-)

And those are just in the last hour or so from the time I'm posting this :-)

I do love the www

An interesting progression from yesterday

Got an email this morning from my friend up at [chcr] about SOCAN and tariff 22 (do a search, there's lots going on about it), which is coming down to the wire. They've been working on "it" since 1995/6, and it's a prime example of why I have been uncomfortable as a member from the start. All I want is compensation when money is made with my work (ie. when played through commercial channels). I don't think I should be paid every time something I've done is listened to- or played with, or taken into some creative dialogue, and if it finds some commercial "success", then flow some of that back to where it came from- proportional to the gains made. Just as if it gains popularity, then give credit when asked. Making a living as an artist can be a tough go, but taxing people is not the way to go- that's only gonna piss em off! Not unlike the tariff on blank media in Canada, so I get to pay "top" artists every time I burn a CD of my own stuff- I know, there's a form I can fill out and get it back or buy them special, in the end it's hard not to see a bit of a "conspiracy" against the independent artist... certainly there is some dark forces against independent radio. Be sure to check out [National Campus and Community Radio Association] for info and audio- get those streams now, they might not be there much longer... Thanks SOCAN!
